Surg. Dr. Emre Hekimoğlu, having completed his medical education which he launched at Ankara University’s Faculty of Medicine, has received the title of Medical Doctor after achieving his undergraduate education in 2004. Subsequently, Surg. Dr. Hekimoğlu completed his specialization in Ankara Training and Research Hospital and became an Ophthalmologist.

Surg. Dr. Emre Hekimoğlu decided to specialize in ophthalmology and treatment of premature babies due to the high number of premature babies born in the same hospital or admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit with external referrals at Ankara Etlik Zübeyde Hanım Gynecology Training and Research Hospital, where he was appointed to perform his compulsory service duty and with the great support of the hospital management and the Ministry of Health, received training in Zekai Tahir Burak Maternity and Obstetrics Training and Research Hospital located in Ankara province which was one of the most successful ROP (retinopathy of prematurity) Diagnosis & Treatment Clinics of that period, to be specially trained on retinopathy of prematurity.

Surg. Dr. Emre Hekimoğlu, during his years in Ankara, worked in the ROP commission of the Ministry of Health and the ROP commission of the Turkish Ophthalmology Association, and played an active role in the determination and implementation of ROP (retinopathy of prematurity) strategies & policies to be determined throughout the country. Surg. Dr. Hekimoğlu contributed to the training of 63 ophthalmologists, including those working in Moldova, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, on the diagnosis and treatment of ROP (retinopathy of prematurity).

Surg. Dr. Emre Hekimoğlu, continuing to share his experiences on ROP (retinopathy of prematurity) both with his colleagues in the domestic and international publications he wrote, and with the families of our babies who started life early, continues the professional studies thereof at Istanbul Private Levent Hospital.
